Irrfan Khan – the name has been very common among every Indian audience. Irrfan has traveled from his home town Jaipur, Rajasthan to National School Of Drama in Delhi, and has finally got the limelight of Bollywood but his health was also racing against time. Irrfan was suffering from Cancer since 2018 and it was also affecting his work schedule. He went to London for the best possible treatment and was going through recovery. His last film Angrezi Medium was released just before the lockdown was announced. Irrfan’s mother died on 25th April in Jaipur and due to lockdown, he couldn’t attend his mother’s funeral in Jaipur. Just after few days, Irrfan was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai on 28 April 2020 where he was going through a treatment for colon infection and his health condition was deteriorating, he was admitted to ICU. Irrfan Khan was declared dead on 29th April 2020 and everyone was shocked after this news. Due to the lockdown, most of the people who are related to him personally is not being able to attend his funeral. Irrfan Khan laid to rest at the Mumbai Varsova Kabrastan in presence of his wife and children.
Irrfan has made a personal space in the hearts of millions of people. Irrfan was born on 7th January 1966 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, to a Muslim Pashtun family. Khan’s mother, Begum Khan, was from the Tonk Hakim family, and his father, the late Jagirdar Khan, was from the Khajuriya village near the Tonk district and ran a tire business. Irrfan was very keen at playing cricket, Irrfan was selected for the CK Nayudu Tournament (for emerging players under 23 years, a stepping stone to First-Class cricket). But he could not play due to a lack of funds. Irrfan was studying MA when he got a scholarship to study at the National School of Drama in New Delhi in 1984.
After finishing his graduation he went to Mumbai in search of work. He got the opportunity to work in numerous television serials like ‘Chanakya’, ‘Sara Jahan Hamara’, ‘Banegi Apni Baat’ and ‘Chandrakanta’ (Doordarshan) and ‘Star Bestsellers’ (Star Plus), Sparsh, etc. After that, he has become a very common face in the television industry. Irrfan has played many villainous roles in the 90s before becoming a lead.
I am not even capable of judging his movies but some of the best notable films which should be watched are – Salam Bombay 1988, Ek Doctor Ki Maut 1990, Maqbool 2003, Hasil 2003, Namesake 2006, Paan Singh Tomar 2012, Life Of Pie 2012, The Lunchbox 2013.
Very well written.Thank you Mr.Modak.Rest In Eternal peace Khan Shab
Well wrtten Mr Aditya, much appreciable. HE was the only prominent face of Indian cinema in the west. He achieved a lot in life with his hard work. I liked his straight forward attitute and his crisp and confident acting power, which he always made it look like a cake walk. Unfortunately, we wont be able to witness the artist’s finest skills anymore, never thought so even. I beleive he deserves the best place to rest with utmost peace.
