Leader in Satellites and Rockets
2018 has proved to be a very exciting year for India’s space agency ISRO as they have launched a heap of satellites and rockets not only for our nation but also of other nations also. ISRO’s biggest launches of the year 2018 includes GSAT-11, GSAT-29, GSAT-7A, RISAT-1A missions, Cartosat-2, GSAT-6A and IRNSS-11 missions. These launches also includes both GSLV and PSLV rockets. Most importantly, in year 2018, France took our help and launched its ‘Ariane rocket’ which was launched by ISRO. Chandrayaan-2 was the second mission to the moon, fully made in India and launched on 22 nd July 2019. Chandrayaan-3 will be 3 rd moon mission to be launched on Nov 2020.
Ranking of Ease of Doing Business in India
India has climbed a 23 points more than the previous year in the World Bank’s ease of doing business index so to climb to 77th place, becoming the top ranked country in South Asia for the first time and third among the BRICS. This was achieved due to implementation of online single window system, introduction of deemed approvals and reducing the cost for obtaining these permits. In electricity sector, the time taken for obtaining a new connection has been reduced from 105 to 55 days. For resolving insolvency, India has put in place a new Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and time bound reorganization procedure for corporate debtors.
Ordinance of Triple Talaq Bill
Triple Talaq, an old custom followed by the Muslim community was considered as a disrespect shown towards the women. The PM Narendra Modi led govt. then shattered the glass ceiling and came forward to abolish this old painful custom. With the collective efforts, the Instant Triple Talaq was criminalised, and the bill was passed in Lok Sabha. It is a step taken by the Government of India to decrease the rate of divorce given by men without even show casing any reasons for the same. This historical step proves the empowering of Muslim Women across the country.
Statue of Unity
On 31st Oct, 2018, World’s tallest statue was launched after the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The Statue of Unity is a colossal statue of Indian statesman and independence activist Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the permission for making the statue was given by the present Government. This is the tallest statue in the world even bigger than the statue of liberty in America with a height of 182 metres. This project also brought employment to many people and also it has become a major tourist spot in India. By this statue of unity, Indian Government has sent a message that our freedom fighters will not be forgotten and that India will always remain unite even in diversity.
Awards and Recognition in Sports
In 2018, India has achieved heights in the field of sports. India has also achieved medals in Asian games and Para Asian games where their performance were lauded by many. Neeraj Chopra, Dutee Chand, Dipika Pallikal, Hima Das and many others have won medals in their respective sports and made India proud. India women’s kabaddi team has won silver medal in the Asian games and shown that they are equally brilliant as Indian men’s Kabaddi team. India has won 69 medals in the year Asian games which has been the highlight of this year.
Bogibeel Bridge – India’s Longest Rail-Road Bridge
On 25th Dec, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Assam’s Bogibeel Bridge which is considered as India’s Longest Rail-Road bridge with a length of 4,940 m. Bogibeel bridge is a combined road and rail bridge which has been built over the Brahmaputra river in the north eastern Indian state of Assam between Dhemaji district and Dibrugarh district. The project was started in year 2002 and got completed in Year 2018. This is also Asia’s 2nd longest rail-cum-road bridge that has a serviceable period of around 120 years.
Train-18- India’s Fastest Train
Train 18 is one of the key projects of Indian railways which was flagged off on December 29, 2018. The Train-18 is an Indian semi-high speed train which is claimed to be India’s fastest train. An intercity electric multiple unit, the train is basically a type of self-propelled train without a separate dedicated locomotive. The Train was went on a speed test trial on Friday, 28th December, started from Delhi at 12:55Am midnight and reached Prayagraj on 29th Dec, 7.48am. It took 7 hours total in reaching to its destinations with a speed of 180 kmph, claiming the fastest in India.
Navika Sagar – Another Ray for Women Empowerment
Woman empowerment was one of the main objectives of the government which has been achieved in this year. Navika Sagar Parikrama was introduced for circumnavigation of the globe on INSV Tarini by Indian Navy’s Women Naval Officers. The six-member all-woman team circumnavigated and managed the whole operation in their first ever global journey. Apart from this, Women has now entered into the war field also as Indian woman has tear into the skies on a supersonic fighter jet all alone for the first time in the country. Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh have already scripted history by becoming the first-ever women to undergo fighter pilot training in IAF.
Alaknanda Cruise – First luxury cruise in waterways
In an effort to promote tourism through waterways, GoI has launched a 5-star luxury tourist cruise at Khidkiya Ghat of Varanasi on Sept 2, 2018. The Vessel named as Alaknanda is the first ever luxurious cruise which will sail thru Ganges. This 30 metre long double decker modern cruise can carry upto 110 passengers which will take people to visit all 84 ghats of Varanasi. The vessel has inbuilt latest navigation system and onboard GPS. This will enable all the devotees to see Ganga at its best while being on cruise.
Ending Terrorism – Killed 223 Militants, the highest ever
PM Modi led government has always been aggressive towards ending the terrorism from its root from world. After the surgical strike happened in year 2016, the terrorism is getting digged out from India by our Indian Army. Year 2018 has been an all time high which has recorded 223- the highest numbers of militants killed in last 8 years. This states the massive victory of Indian Army, which will definitely eradicate the curse of Terrorism from India and World.
The list is endless. The other developments that has occurred during this year are that electricity has been provisioned in every village and therefore no one is deprived of it. Swachhta abhiyan has reached its peak during the year and reached around 95% of its achievement and therefore cities are more clean and fresh than earlier. India has also received Champions of the Earth Award from UN as India has helped to keep the nature clean.
India has taken a huge step forward towards the development of India as a whole. In the year 2018, the Prime Minister Modi led Government has started several projects and policies whose fruit will be achieved in the year 2019. Jan Dhan yojna, GST, Demonetisation, Road development projects and other projects have been started this year and many poor people have got advantage of this but the year 2018 as only been the start step towards the creation of history and if the rate of development stays like this then the day will not be far away when we Indians could proudly say that we have become a fully developed nation and for this the year 2019 will be of great importance.
